Laurin Societies

1966 - 1979

After about 2 years of production - in which about 85 boats were produced - the initiative was taken to form a Laurin Class Society for the L32.

On 28 January 1966 the founding meeting (Pictures) took place in a Hotel in Malmö and the "L32-Gruppen" was a reality with 70 members, mostly from Sweden, but also from Canada, Denmark, Germany and USA.

The objectives "L32-Gruppen" was: "To be an International Club for the purpose of facilitating contact between L32-Owners, stimulating arrangement of local races, and encouraging interchange of experiences."

In the years to come the "L32-Gruppen" seemed to be concentrating its work in the area with the highest number of L32s, which was Stockholm. It was to such an extend, that the member fee was higher in Stockholm than other parts of Sweden.:

Around 1978-79 the interest and number of arrangements started to diminish and "L32-Gruppen" faded away. ,

1994 - 2003

Another Laurin Class Society saw the day of light, when Nils F Pettersson, Anders Lundgren & Håkan Lundgren established the L28 Society. In 1999 it got its own Homepage on the Internet.

In 2003 Peter Hahne was elected a new Chairman. Surprisingly enough, Peter was not a L28 owner, but owned one of Arvid Laurin's wooden kosters. This "change of wind" can be seen at the start of the transition of the L28 Society into an overall "Laurin" Society, which became a fact in 2003.

2000 - 2009

In an attempt to take over some of the former L32-Gruppen's International "spirit", a happy L32 owner in Denmark - Jørgen Brems - decided to launch a dedicated Laurin 32 Homepage. The objectives were to make as much information about this Classic Yacht available, including a member register. The idea was not a "classic" membership, but rather, "If you have a L32 you are automatically a member" During these years the member register came to include about 85% of ALL L32s, including owners from first to current

In 2009, this was expanded to contain other Laurin designs. See below.

2003 -

In 2003 the Laurinkostersällskapet was established and is now the Laurin Society for Laurin Sailors.

2008 -

As most Laurin fleet gatherings are taking place in the Stockholm area, Karl Rehnberg - owner of L31 "Valkyrian" - took an initiative to arrange fleet gatherings on the West coast of Sweden. In 2008 only a very limited number of boats met, but in 2009 it was 9 boats joining up for an unforgettable meeting in Bassholmen (See "Fleet Pictures -->)

2009

The dedicated L32 Homepage was expanded to contain other Laurin designs, such as L22, L26, L28, L31 and L38 plus the "parents" to them all - Arvid Laurin's wooden designs for the "Koster Rule". This is the page you are currently reading...

The plans for this page are many, but time and "man power" is limited. Anyone with specific class knowledge are welcome to come forward with information, that can improve the quality.
